Corrupted or Missing Driver (Code 39)

Windows may show an error message in the form of code 39. This happens when there is a failure to install or re-install the drives, due to the issue of a corrupted or a missing drive. This operating system concern of code 39 arises due to registry issues. A back up of the same is the first step to deal with the Windows problem. Through the Run command and 'regedit', the corrupted or the missing driver issue can be solved. Once the computer is restarted, the changed configurations will be saved.

Error message

When installing or reinstalling device drivers, Windows may sometimes display the following error message:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).

Solution

Make a backup of the registry

Open the Start menu and select Run

Type regedit and click OK

Remove Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values of the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
